Pre-K

When did Cole grow up so fast?  It's still hard to believe he is settling into his pre-k classroom.  I was way less nervous with Cole going off to school.  Many of Sam's friends at Moorlands have siblings Cole's age and a few of them attend his preschool.  I knew his best bud would be in his class and he would see some familiar faces too.  Cole is also just so laid back.

Sam's preschool teacher retired last year so this year we found a new preschool for our little guy.  It was my second choice when we were looking for Sam and I think it will be a good fit for Cole.  I have heard wonderful things about it and many of the kids will feed into Moorlands with Cole for kindergarten.

The day Sam went to school Cole was really upset.  Thinking he was nervous I sat him down to see what was up.  Nope, not nervous, just upset that he couldn't start school earlier!  Needless to say he was rearing to go for his first day.  The first day was just an hour of meet the teacher but to him, it was the real deal and he considered it his first day of school. I made the mistake of calling his first full morning of school his first day and he quickly corrected me - "mom, it's my second day."  Cole is so different than Sam - no nerves at all - after I drop him off he quickly gives me the 'you can go now mom' look.  He's so independent!

Cole is having a wonderful time there and loves his teachers and friends.  He is pretty tired by the end of the morning and is more than happy to come home with us for lunch.  Eliza misses him terrible and always greets him with screams of joy and hugs when we pick him up.

I think it is so good for Cole to have this school experience.  Already he enjoys being able to tell Sam about his day and what he did - I think it makes him feel so grown up!

Our sweet Cole is growing up!

Cole had to dress up as a teacher too!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
