First Crush

Eeeek!  Sam has his first REAL crush!

Sam has 'liked' girls before, thought they were pretty or nice or taken an interest in them but this is the real deal.  He talks about this girl all the time, blushes when he hears her name and looks for her every day at school.

Oh Paige.

It all started a couple weeks ago.  We went to a birthday party and while we were there Sam whispered to me that he thought one of the girls who was there was in the PM kindergarten class.  Every day the AM and PM classes pass each other - one going out, one going in and since Sam generally never forgets a face so I figured he was probably right. After chatting to the mom we confirmed that her girl was in the afternoon class we introduced the two.  For the rest of the party Sam watched her, chatted with her briefly and sat beside her during the gift opening.  From then on he was smitten.

He sees her every school day and they have a brief little chat before he leaves and she enters the school.  It usually consists of 'hi' but in kindergarten language apparently that is a big deal.  I have no idea if she has any clue that Sam is totally gaga for her but she is seriously the sweetest thing and always has the biggest smile on her face when we see her.

He is dying to have a playdate with her but as I really only met the mom once through a mutual friend I am having to keep him at bay a bit.  However a couple days ago we had a new friend over to play (she has twins Cole's age) and realized they are neighbors with Paige...and she sees them often...and might be able to swing a set up.  Sam was giddy at the thought.

So the first crush has entered our life...I am sure this will not be the last!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
