Sandpoint, Idaho

We had a great long weekend in Sandpoint Idaho enjoying the hospitality of our good friends the Cheesemans.  They bought a condo in Sandpoint over a year ago and it has never worked for us to meet them there so when our dates aligned we jumped at the chance

Our kids always get along so well and it was fun to watch them play and interact.  I think the adults however enjoyed our time after bedtime catching up and visiting.  Even though we have been away from Calgary since 2004 our relationship with Dave and Jess always picks up right where it left off.

It was a little chilly the weekend we were there but we still got out and enjoyed the sights of Sandpoint.  Maybe next time we can make it there in the summer!

Walking to downtown Sandpoint

Cute brothers

The kids (minus Eliza).  That weekend we had ages 6,5,4,3,2, and 1!

Our little swimmers.  Sam is so good now - he needed no help in the pool!  He has moved to red in swimming and is now learning how to dive!

Our bathing beauty insisted on getting in the outdoor pool with her brothers (at least it was heated)

Jenga - Sam's new favorite game.

She got a kick out of the wind

The beach!  It was super windy that day and we headed inside pretty quickly

Yup - this is shopping in Sandpoint!  Cowboy hats were a yes but I drew the line when the gun dealers at the back told the kids they could hold the guns.  No thank you!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
