The Blue Angels

This year we were on the ball!  As opposed to last year when we made a last minute decision to go to see the Blue Angels (which resulted in us sitting in a whole lot of traffic and missing the show) our planning paid off this time around.

By the time we left for church this morning the picnic was packed and the car was filled with all the essentials to help us enjoy the show and beat the heat.  We left right after the service and made it onto Mercer Island well before the crowds.  We also easily found our friends "secret spot" that eluded us last year and found friends there as well.

The boys had a great time running around while waiting for the show to start and luckily we brought a ton of water and our friends had a shade tent as it was hot out!  The boys were so excited to see and hear the planes fly overhead.  Sam of course, our cautious one, was a little concerned about how loud the planes were but Cole was in his element.  He shrieked with joy too many time to count and was shaking with excitement.  He loved the roar of the Blue Angels while Sam preferred the quieter, low flying "Fat Albert."

After arriving home we immediately got out the sprinkler and cooled off - a great end to the afternoon!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
