Wallaby Ranch

Today we had the opportunity to visit Fall City's Wallaby Ranch with our mom's group. It was a bit of a hike and I wasn't sure the boys would be up for it but I am so glad we went.

The man who gave us the tour of his farm breeds kangaroos and wallabies. Most of the babies are raised in his home and as a result they are very friendly! One big kangaroo came into the barn and hopped his way around all the kiddos soaking up the attention and looking for the occasional treat. Cole had just had a Trader Joe's applesauce crusher and had a little on his hands and the Kangaroo loved him. He followed Cole around all over sniffing his hands. Cole LOVED it and was not impressed when I 'rescued' him from the Kangaroo. Both boys got to give a big Kangaroo lots of snuggles. They are such soft animals and Cole was thrilled to give him lots of pats.

We got to see couple little babies in pouches, a little joey and one guy who was over 8 ft when standing. Both boys were thrilled an got a little picture of an albino wallaby to take home for a keepsake. Lunch after with friends rounded out our morning and now both kiddos are napping peacefully. What a fun opportunity for our little guys!

Cole wanted nothing to do with being behind a fence - he wanted in!

Sam waiting to get a kangaroo cuddle

This one was named Minnie Mouse - such a cutie.

Sam was very gentle with the little joey.

There were trucks there too - can't get much better than that.

After the kangaroos the horses became the next attraction

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
