15 Months

The little man is 15 months already! It is hard to believe it was at this time 2 years ago that we moved to Seattle (and shortly after that we found out we were pregnant with our little boy!) Cole had his wellness visit today and had a bit of an interesting check up. We do love our pediatrician's office and the doctors are fabulous but let's just say the nurse didn't work her way into our 'good book' today. After getting Cole's weight and length wrong (so it looked like he hadn't grown a lick in the last three months resulting in a redo for everything) She promptly mixed up our vaccinations!

Now those who know me know I am very leery of vaccinations. After researching them a lot when I was pregnant with Sam I very hesitantly started a modified, delayed and separated schedule that I have kept with Cole too. Both boys are behind on their vaccinations but today I had planned on getting Sam his MMR to almost bring him up to date with his other peers. I was then going to get Cole the Prevnar 13. After some confusion on the nurses part I continuously clarified with her that Sam was first and that he was getting MMR. She kept brushing me off and saying she knew. As she stuck him with the needle she reassured me that yes, she knew Sam was getting the Prevnar. I shouted NO but it was too late. She promptly ran out of the room and in seconds the doctor was in to try to reassure me. By then I was in tears and absolutely so frustrated. What makes it worse is this is the second time a nurse has botched his vaccinations (it happened in PA too) and to top it off last time when Sam got his final Prevnar he had a pretty bad allergic reaction. We are now anticipating this will cause a reaction too and are gearing up for days of misery for our poor boy for nothing.

So not my best wellness appointment but still very thankful that the reversal did not occur with Cole getting the MMR (that vaccine terrifies me and I refuse to get it before my kiddos are 3) and ultimately very thankful for two very healthy boys. I figured I needed to included a few pictures of the boys from today to cheer me up. Such cuties!

Wow, Erin, how frustrating and scary. I would have been a mess too. Maybe never have them get shots on the same day! Yikes. Sorry you guys went through that.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
