The Good Ol' Days

I had intended to do this post a few weeks ago but got a little sidetracked - however, now is better than never so here we go!

We have been pretty amazed at all the connections we have made in Seattle despite the fact that we really didn't have a lot of 'contact' with anyone in the city when we moved here. It is neat for us to reflect on how many people have come into our life here with an interesting story behind the relationship. In our list of connections we have a friend from Calgary's ex girlfriend, good friends of our step siblings, a cousin of one of our small group members back in PA and the list goes on! Here is the story of one of the fun connections we have been able to make since moving back out west!

Back in high school, my good friend Catherine introduced me to her friend Taunia. The three of us spent a good couple of years hanging out together and having a ton fun. However, after high school, Taunia moved to Seattle and I lost touch with her. Catherine however stayed in touch with both of us. Upon finding out we were moving to Seattle Catherine reminded me that Taunia lived here too and helped me hunt her down. Within the first week of arriving here Taunia and I were able to connect and catch up. In fact, I realized we were in a rental only 10 minutes from her place and our little boys were only 3 months apart! Since then, we have been able to get together regularly and our boys have become really good buddies.

A couple of weeks ago, Catherine and her husband Dave came down from Calgary to visit. It was a great weekend where us girls were able to get together with our husbands and kiddos and have a little taste of the good ol' days. It is so nice to be closer to Calgary to be able enjoy these opportunities with friends we were used to seeing only once or twice a year! Funnily enough, between the three couples there are 5 little boys running around (if you count Catherine's two boys who stayed in Calgary and our little guy on the way.) Not a girl in sight for this bunch!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
