Growing Up

Our Cole just keeps growing up!  The little guy turned 5 a couple of weeks ago and sometimes I look at him and just wonder where the time went?!

Cole is truly such a happy kid.  Sure, he has his moments but overall the kid goes through life with such and infectious smile and the sweetest giggle. He's really grown this past year and is becoming much more confident as he works to navigate his way out of his big brother's shadow and find his own groove.

He is such a smart boy and I don't even think he really realizes how much he knows.  He and Sam often play basic math games and the kid can hold his own - in addition he is reading so well!  Sometimes he will look at something and just read it as if it is the easiest thing ever!  He has no clue how well prepared he is for kindergarten already!

He simply loves Skylanders and this year he really wanted a Skylander birthday.  This is the first year we have really separated their birthday parties as Cole now has his own little group of friends from preschool.  We had a lovely bunch of kids over for his party and he had a great time restoring the balance in Skylands!

After hitting the pool for a swim we went out for supper to a new favorite - Pizza Bank after hitting the pool for a swim.  He loved it and when the manager heard it was his birthday he brought him back in the kitchen to make his own sundae and give him a 'mouth' sundae (aka whip cream poured into his mouth!)

Love this boy and his sweet smile!  Happy 5th birthday Cole!

Cole's favorite girl in his class - Peyton (in the superwomen outfit)  He said he liked her because she was always nice to him and asked if he was OK if he ever got hurt!  Sweet girl!

Mentos and diet coke - the kids loved it!

Cole and his current best buddy - Cooper.

I loved making this cake!  One of my favorites to date!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...
