Arizona

We were so looking forward to our trip to Arizona over mid winter break this year!  Not only were we ready for a little sun and warmth but we haven't seen our east coast crew since I was 28 weeks pregnant with Eliza.

It took literally 2 minutes before our kids were past the shyness stage and were running around the airport with each other.  It was so fun to see them together and how easily they all hit it off.

We had a lot of fun adventures in Arizona.  Lot's of pool time, family time park time, and soaking up the sun! The day after we got home Eliza cried because she just wanted to see the cactus' again.

Reunited!

We loved spending time at Don and Jen's place one evening!  They have a beautiful location!

When in Arizona it is a must to have some Mexican!  After a day in the sun and pool the kids were absolutely content to sit quietly and relax with a coloring book!  Luckily I had one packed for everyone!

There was a great park near the McNair's place and we enjoyed an afternoon of playing a little football on the turf.  The kids had a ton of fun!

Grandpa and Oma's condo was right across the street from the train park.  We frequented it a lot and enjoyed playing at the park and tossing the football.  One morning we met friends from Sam's school there.  Their family is moving to Arizona at the end of the school year (sad) so they were down their looking at homes while we were there too.  We are going to miss them!

We went back later that afternoon with the cousins and enjoyed picnic, a train ride and a spin on the carousal!

The McNair family had an AMAZING place and we enjoyed spending some afternoons at their place and in the pool!

The 'backyard' fort

some bubble time!

One morning we went to the Arabian horse show.  We weren't sure if it would be something the kids enjoyed but thought we would give it a try.  It was definitely a nice change to the day and the kids loved the horses.  Plus, someone at the door gave us free tickets which made it even better!  Eliza loves horses and she was mesmerized!

It was hot - we needed a shade and popcorn break!

These horses were awesome!  You could slide them across the floor by pushing your feet in the stirrups - they could have been ours - for a mere $350!

A stop (or two) at In N Out - a must!

Cannonball!  Her favorite!

Cole has become an amazing swimmer - however he just terrifies me!  He is fully independent but his favorite thing to do is just silently slip underwater and sink to the bottom!  It constantly looks to me like he is drowning but he's all good!  He got a major work out - he was the only kid (other than Eliza) who could never touch the bottom.  That kid was exhausted from spending hours in the pool!

This little girl loves the water.  We can't wait to get our pool pass again this summer and watch this one learn more!

Everyone loves the hot tub!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
