Calgary Christmas

We had a great time back up in Calgary over Christmas.  It was a busy time with family and friends but everyone had a wonderful time.  The one thing the kids were truly disappointed with is that there was no snow.  There was 'ice' left from a previous snowfall but nothing that you could do anything with - no sledding, snowmen or snowballs this year.  However we were still able to get outside and have some fun on Christmas Eve.

That night we headed across the street to the Airdrie Festival of Lights.  Our rookie american kids desperately wanted to skate but as we had no ice skates they made due running around and sliding on the ice in their boots.

On Christmas we enjoyed Christmas morning in Airdrie with Grandma where Santa was kind enough to leave a few more items in our stocking.

We later all went into Grandpa's where we enjoyed Christmas dinner and another round of gift opening.  The Calgary Flames have a goalie this year with the last name of Hiller so Grandpa ensured all the boys had "Hiller' flames jerseys.

The next day we had a rather unconventional Christmas with Grammy!  She had a couple of hours in Calgary so we met for a quick post christmas chinese buffet....and a game of bowling!  A bit of a different type of Christmas than usual but a lot of fun!

We always have a great time hanging out with friends when we are back in town.  We enjoyed an evening with the Hus/ Huber / Okraniec crew as well as time with my dear friend Catherine an her family, my cousin Roberta and her family, our friends the Biermans and the Cheeman's too.  When we visited the Cheesman's after lunch we headed over to Heritage Park where they were having a little Bonhomme D'neige festival.  Our kids had a blast but unfortunately things went south for poor Griffin.  After the Cheesman's went home the poor boy came down with the stomach flu.  We were praying that our kids would avoid it after spending the day with their family!

Eliza really bonded with Uncle Nathan during this trip.  She was full of snuggles for him.  It was pretty cute.

We were amazed yet again that Granny was able to travel to Calgary as well for Christmas.  The kids were so happy to get to see her again.  Amazing that she is still able to travel at 97!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
