Birch Bay

A trip to Birch Bay in to celebrate the August birthday seems to be becoming a yearly tradition.  This year Auntie Ruth and Auntie Hildie joined the fun as well and it was great to visit with them.  With each year this trip it seems to get a bit easier.  We feel with Eliza nearing the 2 year old mark everyone is getting a bit more independent.

We had a great day out on the beach, enjoying birthday cupcakes, playing some mini golf and riding go carts and trains.  We ended the night with supper in Bellingham before heading home.  The kids had a great time and were wired before we left for home.  The boys stayed awake almost the entire trip home and were still happy when we tucked them into bed after 10PM that night.

Thanks for the invite Grandpa and Oma!

Story time with Grandpa

The boys loved the beach...Eliza - not so much.  Shortly after this she and mommy headed back to the condo.  She wasn't sure of all the 'green stuff'

She had to help blow out the candles.

Grandpa loves pie and had already had birthday pie before we arrived so we improvised....pie cupcakes.

Ready, set, go!  The boys loved the go carts.  Cole had a bit of a pout because he wanted to drive and what you can't see pictured is Eliza crying from the sidelines because she was too little to go in them.

Eliza felt much better getting a train ride after being denied the go carts

After playing mini golf for Sam's birthday this crew considered themselves pros this time around

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
