Memorial Weekend

What a perfect weekend!  It seems like it has been a long time since we had a day off with Drew so we were excited to have a bit of a 'staycation' around home.  We had a wonderful weekend and are a little sad to be going back to the grind tomorrow.  We did a little bit of everything...bike riding, a bbq with Sam's best bud Carter and his family, a trip to Snoqualmie Ice Cream, church, a morning at the Pacific Science Center and time at the pool.   What could be better!

Ice cream - yum!  It must have been good because we caught both boys trying to lick up every last bit.  I took a tour of this local ice cream factory a couple years ago and we have meant to take Drew for a while.  It's just a neat place to stop in -we will be back!

Eliza has always refused ice cream but she went with it today and loved it!

I can't believe we have never been to the Science Center before.  The kids loved it and we couldn't resist getting a yearly pass for the next year.  It will especially be great for some of those rainy Seattle days.  The kids loved the water play outside, the tidal pool, the bugs, butterfly garden and dinosaur exhibit!

All 3 boys working hard to get the wheel to turn

Eliza was little enough to go in the toddler area and loved playing in the water

The butterfly garden was awesome!  There were so many everywhere and we loved that they would come up and land on us.

Sam was a little unsure of this fellow

I love Cole's face here.  He loved his little buddy

We bought a pool pass this year to an outdoor neighborhood pool nearby in Kirkland.  The passes are very hard to come by but my MOPS mentor this year is the pool manager for pool #5 and she helped get us in.  It opened this weekend and we have already been a couple times and LOVE it.  They keep the pool really warm so it is very comfortable and has a very relaxed feel.  I think we will be here a lot this summer!  Eliza was a little unsure at first but was quick to warm up and spent most of her time today standing on the edge and 'jumping' into my arms yelling "cannonball!"

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
