Seahawks

There was a lot of excitement in our house surrounding the Seahawks Superbowl run.  We are not crazy football fans but it is hard not to get excited when your home team is doing so well.  We had kept tabs on them all year and watched when we could but in the couple months before their Superbowl game we became more attentive. Sam surprised us and was really into the Hawks.  He loved to watch them play with Drew and would try to learn all the ins and outs of the game.  He started to learn about the players - his favs - Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch (beast mode) of course.

So Sam was beyond excited when they made it to the Superbowl...and got Cole excited too.  It was all the talk in our house between Cole and Sam in the weeks leading up to the game.  They desperately wanted jerseys but we convinced them to settle for shirts.  They wanted to wear the Seahawks colors on the day of the big game.

Grandpa and Oma drove down to watch the game with us which was also very exciting for the kids.  Sam surprised us all and basically watched the whole game and kept doing touchdown / field goal math.  They loved seeing the Seahawks win and hearing the fireworks outside to celebrate.

Now Sam keeps telling Cole how many more months they will have to wait until football starts again...I think they are hooked!

We had to make a Seahawks hat for crazy hat day at school!

We built Seahawks Lego

We wrote about the Seahawks

We wore our Seahawks shirts

We cheered when the Seahawks won!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
