Growing Up

Our little Cole is growing up.  I still can't believe we have ourselves a two year old.

I know it sounds cliche but it truly feels like we met our little man yesterday.  I had my 24 week check up on the day of his birthday and it was a walk down memory lane heading to the hospital and meeting with the Dr. who preformed my unexpected c-section to bring my 10 lb baby boy into this world exactly two years.

I don't know what our family would be like without our Coleson.  He is just such an incredible joy.  He is the sweetest, happiest, smiliest little boy, yet he has a mischievous streak that you can see in his eyes. He loves to tell jokes and thinks he is oh so funny if he can get someone to laugh.  He is so brave and as a result he pushes his more conservative, cautious big brother to adventure out a little bit more.  He is very active and physical yet he still loves to snuggle and will just tuck himself right into you when he needs a break.  He has very clear opinions and can give you a killer glare if he does not get his way but is very quick to recover and soon responds with "I'm happy now!"  He talks up a storm and it is sometimes hard to believe that so many words, expressions and thoughts can be communicated so clearly.  He currently loves his alphabet.  You will often hear him singing his ABC's.  He knows all the letters and their phonetic sounds and is constantly on the hunt for letters around the house.  He adores Sam and wants to do just about anything he does and we truly think he is convinced he is the same age as his brother.  When Cole smiles his whole face just lights up and it can just melt your heart.  Sometimes when he plays he will just look up, flash his amazing smile, say 'hi' and carry on with what he is doing.  He is just so sweet!

God truly gave us the perfect boy who just fit in beautifully with our family and I can't imagine it any other way.  We are truly blessed.

On Friday we enjoyed a quiet celebration with our new two year old.  We opted to avoid a party as in a couple weeks we will be in Orlando with all our family and as Sam's birthday will be during our trip, we will just have a combined party for the boys (and for Grandma who is turning 95!).  However, as we didn't want to haul Sam's birthday presents out east we included him in the 'party' too as he got to open his presents and blow out his very own candles on Cole's cake as we sang "happy soon birthday" to him.  The next morning the boys were surprised by Grandpa and Oma who arrived after they were in bed the night before and the cake eating and present opening continued!

Here are a few pictures!  Enjoy!

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
