Again...

Here we go again....

Sam is sick again. After vomiting for the past three hours we now begin the all to familiar task of rehydrating our little guy and hoping that this will pass quickly. It seems in the last 4 months we have gone down this road too many times and ultimately still have a hard time determining if Sam's issues are reflux, allergies/food intolerances, 'bugs' or a combination of all three!

It is a helpless feeling to have a sick kid and really not be able to do anything other than try to make them as comfortable as possible. I can't even imagine those families that deal with this daily as their children struggle with much mores serious illnesses. I think of my cousin Roberta, with a little girl facing surgury for a very complicated heart problem, and it makes Sam's issues seem rather small. I guess no matter what the problem, it is most reassuring to trust that they are in the palm of God's hand.

So tonight we will continue the pedialyte and tackle the mass amounts of laundry. Sam just 'toddled' past me chatting away so here's hoping the worst is over...and we can have a better day tomorrow.

Poor little man! Hope he's doing better soon and that you and Drew get some sleep!
Oh, we feel bad for the little fellow, and for you.

You know, at ~1 year of age, Eli seemed to be sick all the time. Fevers, and the whole gambit. It sort of corresponds with breastfeeding tapering off - and the immune advantage that that confers disappearing - and the little fellow interacting more with other kids and their toys. Put that all together, and it's about the most efficient bug-spreading that you can get.

A bunch of our friends related similar experiences. So, hopefully, that's all that it is.

One way, or another, you're in our prayers, as we know that it's not an easy time.

Sun River and Portland for Mid Winter Break

Drew had a conference in Sun River OR this past winter and we made the call to tag along for a little vacation.  Things were slightly dampened by the fact that it appears Cole has developed car sickness since the summer. Ugh.  The drive was so long! However, it was worth it in the end and we had a wonderful time relaxing in an amazing little chalet, enjoying the snow, sitting in the hot tub, sledding and skating!  Couldn't have asked for more fun!  A stop at our favorite in Mt. Hood - El burro loco! A glass of wine after our 6 hour road trip turned into 10 hours due to car sickness!  Right before our Owl Walk.  We were told we could walk into the wood and hear the owls. What a bust!  3 cold and tired kids in the dark woods and no owls!  It's now a running joke in our home as the  tour guide kept 'hooting' trying to draw the owl's attention.  If we want someone's attention in the house we often hoot at each other now...

Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! We daily feel so grateful for all of the blessings in our life but it is nice to have a day to get together with family and reflect and relax. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend in Long Island, NY with Drew's 'east coast' family. Sam enjoyed his second road trip out to Long Island and did fabulous! He got to see a lot of family again and finally get to meet his Great Granny! Sam got some early Christmas gifts this year and had a lot more enthusiasm unwrapping them than we expected!

Reflections

North shore School District hosted an art walk this year to highlight student work.  The theme was Imagine and students were tasked with creating some sort of 'art' that reflected the theme.  Sam came home one day and told us that he had submitted something.  What came as even more as a surprise was when we were contacted to say his piece was a qualifier to represent the school in the district art walk.  Sam was pretty thrilled with it and with his ribbon and didn't mind at all that his piece didn't move on to the next round of judging.  His best bud Owen had his work submitted as well and they enjoyed hanging out at the art show.
